Outside of the professional space, I'm proud of my role as the leader of a chapter of the charity Dining For Women, dedicated to educating and empowering women and girls in developing countries. My work with DFW allows me to make the most of my skills in social media management, PR and strategy for good. In the summer of 2018 I traveled to Washington to attend DFW’s 15th anniversary conference at the U.S. Institute of Peace, where I was able to learn from international experts working to end gender-based violence and elevate the role of women in developing countries.
Through Dining for Women I was also introduced to the non-profit READ Global, which works to establish library and resource centers (READ Centers) in rural communities in South Asia, where the majority of women are illiterate and most families live below the poverty line. READ Centers are owned and operated by the local community, creating sustainable impact that I’m proud to contribute to through editorial and content volunteer work. Most recently, a proposal I worked on with READ Global earned them a $500,000 grant to establish a tech education program for underserved girls in Nepal.
Being in the creative profession doesn't mean creativity stops when the whistle blows. When I'm off the clock, I enjoy writing novels, poetry and screenplays.
Favorite projects include:
Copyediting the Unsplash book
Completing two novels during National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), 2014 and 2015
Screenwriting partnership with independent film collective (1st film complete, 2nd in production)
